What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

Symptoms of COVID-19 can range from mild illness to pneumonia. Some people will recover easily, and others may get very sick very quickly. People with coronavirus may experience symptoms such as:

  • fever
  • respiratory symptoms
  • coughing
  • sore throat
  • shortness of breath

Other symptoms can include runny nose, acute blocked nose (congestion), headache, muscle or joint pains, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, loss of sense of smell, altered sense of taste, loss of appetite and fatigue.

 To stop the spread of COVID-19 people with even mild symptoms of respiratory infection should avoid contact with others and get tested.

Where to get tested

Everyone’s first option should be to use a rapid antigen test. If you test positive on a rapid antigen test, you are legally required to report your result to the Department of Health by filling in the form online or calling the Coronavirus Hotline at 1800 675 398

Benalla Health has a COVID-19 Fever Clinic set up for people to receive the test. It's important to call ahead on 5761 4284 to make an appointment or go to Benalla Health Covid-19 for more information.

How to seek medical attention

If you are sick and think you have symptoms of COVID-19, seek medical advice and get tested.

To seek medical help from a doctor or hospital, call ahead of time to book an appointment.

If you want to talk to someone about your symptoms, call the National Coronavirus Helpline for advice on 1800 020 080. The Helpline can provide general information about COVID-19, COVID-19 vaccines or help with the COVIDSafe app. 

If you need assistance with booking a COVID-19 vaccine appointment, please note the call centre is unable to book appointments on your behalf. Instead, find out about where to get vaccinated at coronavirus.vic.gov.au
