Sophie Humphries - 2022 Young Citizen of the Year
Sophie is an inspirational young person who consistently displays enthusiasm, initiative, empathy for others and positive leadership in a range of volunteering roles within the Benalla Rural City community.
Programs Sophie has been involved with include the Live4Life Crew, Portsea Camp Junior Leader, TDA Performing Arts, Tomorrow Today Foundation's Connect 9, Let’s Find Our Voice Program, St Joseph’s Primary School volunteer program and the Regent Honey Eater Project.
For the past eight years Sophie has been a CFA volunteer with the Greta Fire Brigade and has successfully competed in many fire sport events, at the CFA State Championships, bringing home a range of championship medals with her Greta Brigade team members.
Sophie is a positive role model for young people and has received scholarship and leadership awards for her achievements at FCJ College Benalla. When undertaking her studies at FCJ she took on roles such as Social Justice and Environment Captain, and College Vice-Captain.
Sophie is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Education course at ACU in Canberra and when not studying cares for adults her own age in the area of disability support.
When she completes her degree she hopes to return to regional Victoria to take up a teaching position.
