Benalla Rural City Council is inviting community members to nominate outstanding individuals, groups, and community projects for the 2026 Australia Day Awards.
The Australia Day Awards recognise and celebrate the contributions of those who make a positive difference across our municipality. Categories include Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Group of the Year and Community Event or Project of the Year.
Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn said the awards recognise the dedication of individuals and groups to our community.
“These awards are a wonderful way to acknowledge the dedication, passion, and generosity of our local heroes. Every nomination tells a story of people who go above and beyond to make Benalla Rural City a stronger and more connected community.”
Eligible nominees must live, or volunteer most of their time within the municipality. Nominations should clearly demonstrate the nominee’s contribution and impact on the community.
“Whether it’s through volunteering, leading initiatives, or inspiring others, we want to hear about the individuals and groups who make a real difference,” Cr Hearn added.
Nominations for the 2026 Australia Day Awards open at 9am on Wednesday, 1 September 2025, and close at 5pm on Wednesday, 26 November 2025. Forms can be completed online via Council’s website or collected from our Customer Service Centre.
