Benalla Rural City Council has proudly supported the Benalla Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club with grant funding to improve facilities and help deliver its milestone 100th Annual Tennis Tournament, the three-day tournament will commence on Saturday 3 January 2026.
Earlier in the year the Council awarded a $7,000 grant to refurbish the ceiling in the clubhouse hall, with works completed in August 2025. The upgrade has improved the comfort and usability of the space for club members, players and the wider community.
In addition, at its Finance and Planning Committee Meeting on Wednesday 10 December, the Council has awarded the club a $2,000 Major Events Grant to support the delivery of the 2026 tournament. The funding has assisted with the purchase of tennis balls, catering and prizes for winners and runners-up across more than 30 events.
Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn, said the Council was proud to support a club with such a strong history and ongoing contribution to the community.
“This funding helps ensure the club’s facilities remain welcoming and fit for purpose, while also supporting the volunteers who work so hard to deliver major events like the annual tennis tournament,” Cr Hearn said.
Cr Hearn said the upcoming 100th year of the tournament is a significant milestone for both the club, broader community and speaks to the dedication of everyone involved over many decades,” she said.
The Benalla Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club has been located on its current site since 1934 and has a proud history of hosting players at all levels, from grassroots participation through to nationally and internationally recognised competitors.
Council remains committed to supporting local sporting clubs through grants and partnerships that strengthen community connection, encourage active lifestyles and celebrate Benalla Rural City’s rich sporting heritage.
The 100th Annual Tennis Tournament will begin on Saturday 3 January 2026, with events held across multiple grades throughout the tournament period.
