Benalla Rural City Council is calling on RV users to help protect the free RV Dump Point at the Benalla Airport by avoiding the disposal of wet wipes, including those labelled as “flushable.” The improper use of the facility has led to repeated blockages, costing Council thousands of dollars in plumbing repairs.
Despite clear signage and CCTV monitoring, the issue persists, with wet wipes causing significant damage to the dump point. Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn expressed her concern, saying, “We’re proud to offer this free service to RV travellers, but it’s simply not designed to handle wet wipes. These so-called ‘flushable’ wipes don’t break down and cause costly blockages. We need everyone’s cooperation to keep this facility open.”
The dump point has reopened after the latest blockage was cleared, but Council warns that continued misuse could lead to its permanent closure. “If the problem continues, we may have no choice but to decommission the dump point and explore other options, which would be a loss for visitors, with a flow on effect on businesses,” Mayor Hearn added.
Council is urging all users to dispose of wet wipes responsibly and to only use the dump point for its intended purpose. “Let’s work together to keep this valuable service running,” said Mayor Hearn.
