Powering Resilience in the Regions
Benalla Library battery storage installation
Benalla Rural City Council is partnering with the Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance and nine other regional Victorian councils to deliver the Powering Resilience in the Regions project, including the installation of a battery energy storage system at the Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop Learning Centre.
The Project is funded through the Victorian Government’s 100 Neighbourhood Batteries Program (Round 2, Stream 3). Eleven energy backup systems comprised of behind-the-meter battery energy storage systems integrated with new/existing solar PV, have been funded across ten local government areas. The objectives and expected outcomes of the Project are:
- Enhanced energy resilience in regional communities impacted by extended grid outages through the installation and commissioning of energy backup systems on council-owned public facilities.
- Capacity to backup critical circuits at these facilities for at least two days in the event of a grid outage, and to charge from solar in island mode to extend backup duration.
- Reduced energy costs at funded sites, with savings to be passed on to site users and the wider community through benefit sharing mechanisms.
A Request for Tender (RFT) for this project is now open on the Ararat Rural City Council’s eProcure portal here: https://app.eprocure.com.au/ararat/. All questions regarding the RFT should be lodged through the eProcure portal.
This prjoject is supported by the Victorian Government’s 100 Neighbourhood Batteries Program.
