National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year, to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

Join us as we celebrate NAIDOC in Benalla on Tuesday 9 July.

At 10.30am we will raise the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags at the Civic Centre in 13 Mair Street.

At 11am the celebration will continue at the Benalla Lakeside Community Centre. There you can enjoy:

  • Official Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony
  • Unveiling of artwork by local Aboriginal artist Aunty Cheryl Cooper
  • Live music
  • Info stalls and displays by local organisations
  • Lucky door prizes and give-aways
  • Traditional games
  • Children's arts and crafts and storytime
  • BBQ and other food

This is a FREE event for all of the community - everyone is welcome.

Supported by the Victorian Government's Social Inclusion Action Group program, Benalla Health, Benalla Rural City Council and the First People's Assembly of Victoria - Treaty for Victoria.
