Organic (Green) Waste Collection

Benalla Rural City’s urban residents receive an organic waste service, and rural residents have the option of larger recycling bins.

Households have been provided with kitchen caddies and compostable bags to help them manage their organic waste. The organics service and the larger 360-litre recycling bins are designed to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

Organics collection reduces the amount of general waste collection, providing a cost saving for the community. It also decreases the amount of organic waste buried in general waste which releases methane, a powerful greenhouse gas.
