Changes to immunisation service: make an appointment

All immunisation services will be by appointment only. This applies to all scheduled council immunisation sessions in Benalla Rural City and other areas Wodonga provides a mobile immunisation service.  

 

To book an appointment for a scheduled immunisation session online, go to the Immunisation Portal, select 'Book a Community Immunisation Appointment' and follow the prompts. 

If you are experiencing difficulties booking online, contact Wodonga Council’s Immunisation Team on 1800 655 360 or email immunise@wodonga.vic.gov.au

If you do not have an appointment, you may not be able to receive the vaccination you require.

 

To reduce the risk of infection:

  • only one parent/guardian should accompany a child into the immunisation session

     

  • anyone attending the immunisation session will be screened for COVID-19
  • hand sanitiser will be provided
  • plastic chairs will be disinfected before and after use
  • BYO pen - we have limited supplies of disinfected pens available
  • BYO toy - there is a 15 min waiting period after vaccination

Benalla Rural City Council offers immunisation clinics that are open to all members of the community.

All vaccines on the National Immunisation Program Schedule (Immunisation Schedule) are free of charge.

Some vaccines are not on the Immunisation Schedule but are free to certain groups. For example, free immunisations are provided under the National Immunisation Program for people over 65 years.

If you need a vaccine that is not on the Immunisation Schedule, including the Influenza, Whooping Cough and Hepatitis A and B vaccines, you should call the service two weeks in advance to ensure the vaccine is available.

Immunisation Sessions

Immunisation sessions are usually held on the first Monday of the month. There are exceptions, such as for public holidays, so you do need to confirm the date by checking the City of Wodonga website for updated schedules.

10am-11.30am at Benalla Community Care, 45 Coster Street, Benalla
1pm-1.30pm at Waminda Neighbourhood House at 19 Ballintine Street, Benalla

Immunisation Records

Do you need to apply for immunisation records? Visit the Wodonga website for information about how to request an immunisation history.

People born in 1966 or later may need a measles vaccination booster if they only received one or no vaccination. Check your immunisation records and get a free booster if you need it. More information about measles is available on the Better Health Channel website

School Entry Immunisation Certificate

It is a legal requirement to present a School Entry Immunisation Certificate when starting primary school in Victoria.

Children who are not immunised still require the certificate in order to present it to their school. If your child is not immunised, you will need to provide records to obtain the certificate. You can provide:

  • A statutory declaration stating that you have a conscientious objection to immunising your child
  • A medical declaration from your doctor providing medical reasons for not immunising your child

Medical and statutory declaration forms are available from the Council’s Customer Service Centre.

To obtain a school entry immunisation certificate or a record of immunisation history, go to the Australian Immunisation Register website or call the Australian Immunisation Register on 1800 653 809.

School Immunisation Program 

The Benalla Rural City Council’s immunisation service visits all secondary schools annually. Parents need to provide their consent or refusal for their child to access the service.

The service is free to secondary school students. The vaccines are available to students from Year 7 and immunise against Chickenpox (varicella), Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis.

Workplace Immunisation

The Council can provide immunisation on-site at your workplace. The cost is dependent on the vaccine required and the quantity of immunisations required.
