Benalla Rural City is proudly home to a significant older population with 42 per cent of our residents aged 55 years or over and 17 per cent over the age of 70.

The wider region is highly regarded as a place where seniors can live active and fulfilling lives in a picturesque setting offering four distinct seasons and endless opportunities for involvement.

Benalla Rural City Council acknowledges and thanks our senior residents for the value they bring to the fabric of the wider community.

On behalf of Council, Mayor Cr Danny Claridge thanked all the passionate, tireless volunteers who are part of our senior community.

“Without whose individual and collective contribution, Council could not deliver the quantity and quality of services we offer,” Cr Claridge said.

“I also acknowledge the invaluable connection so many groups and organisations provide such as U3A, Probus, Men’s Shed, Friends of the Benalla Library, Age Friendly Benalla, Rose City Ladies Group, the Swanpool Group and Meals on Wheels, to name a few. Without them Benalla Rural City would not be the vibrant place it is today.”

Whilst the past two years have been extremely challenging, Council remains hopeful that soon lockdowns and restrictions will be a distant memory and together we can resume community activities, festivals and special events.

Planning is already underway for a bigger and brighter 2022 Seniors Festival for local residents. Community involvement and ideas for the program are warmly welcomed.
