Dr Lee Manning - 2022 Benalla Rural City Citizen of the Year
Between professional commitments and a diverse range of roles it is easy to wonder how Lee finds the time to contribute so much time to helping the Benalla Rural City community.
Lee is an inspirational role model across the community, particularly with her work with young people, assisting them to enjoy a team sport and experience outdoor activities. Through the Benalla Hockey Club, she welcomes everyone, regardless of age or ability and has gained much needed equipment and uniforms through grant opportunities.
Lee has volunteered with the Benalla SES for 17 years, attending car accidents, storm damage, floods, searches and bushfire support. During 2020 she stepped up as Deputy Controller to support the unit through COVID lockdowns.
Lee’s other volunteering efforts include:
- Obtaining over $90,000 in grants since 2012 for Benalla Toy Library, Bernard Briggs and Munro Avenue kindergartens, Girl Guides, Benalla Central Community Garden.
- Community representative for Benalla Rural City’s 4 Year Plan workshop
- Alpine Valleys Community Leadership Program
- Community representative on the Benalla Pandemic Subcommittee of the Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee
- Benalla Community Garden
- Benalla Show Steward
In her paid work as a vet with Agriculture Victoria, Lee deals with animal welfare and exotic disease.
Lee’s vision is for every child and young person in Benalla to feel that they belong, are connected and that they play a meaningful part in their community.
